My Favourite Animated Films

If you read my last post, you will know how strongly I feel about the creation and production of animated films. Since I spoke about how great they were, I decided to do a list of my favourite ones so, if you want, you can go watch them. If you have already watched them, you can see my review on them.

1. Finding Nemo

This film brings back many memories. I remember dressed up in my Snow White outfit, ready to go to the cinema to watch this for my birthday. I vividly remember sitting on the front row in the screening. Because of that, the film is very nostalgic to me. Regardless of that, the film is full of adventure and some great characters. The film is about Nemo, a young clownfish who goes missing and his father, Marvin tries to find him. Marvin encounters the quirky angelfish, Dory who helps him on his mission to save Nemo. The colour palettes used in this film are extremely eye catching too – very bright and colourful. This is definitely one of my favourite Pixar films.

2. My Neighbour Totoro

Without a doubt, this is one of the cutest films you will ever see. This film is by the man I was talking about in my last post, Hayao Miyazaki. This is one of the most well known Studio Ghibli films he did during his time at the company. It is about two sisters who discover a huge, fluffy woodland spirit and his companions when they move to rural Japan. This is such an imaginative film as well as highly creative. It is such a feel good film which I could watch over and over again. This was the first Studio Ghibli film I saw, which led me into watching many more.

3. Monsters Inc.

The ending of this film always makes people cry, whatever your age is, it will make you sob whilst watching it. Not only is this one of my favourite animated films ever, it is also one of my favourite films ever. Period. The thought of monsters makes everyone scared but, the monsters in this film are quite the opposite and when my younger self was watching this, I wish I had two friends like Sully and Mike – mainly the reason why I bought two big plush toys of Mike and Sully. One of the most famous character in the film is not the two main characters but, it is in fact, Roz – a giant slug who is the receptionist. This is definitely one of Pixar’s most successful films; which caused a sequel to be made called ‘Monsters University’. This was not as good as the first but, baby Mike was incredibly cute. This is definitely a must see if you are into animated films or, just a must see in general.

4. UP

This is another Disney Pixar film but, this one gets a special mention because of the very emotional opening to the film. Usually kid’s films do not deal with strong, mature issues. This however, deals with issues such as: miscarriages, long term illnesses and financial issues. The opening was definitely very surprising for a Pixar film and I could tell that in the cinema, lots of people were shocked. The opening will reduce you to tears. The film however, is a very feel good film which makes you cry and laugh.

5. Coraline

This film is very eery and some people I know who watched it when they were younger were very scared. This film is different from the others I have mentioned as it is animated through the use of stop motion animation. I thought this film was very cleverly produced and made; like the others, the story is very imaginative. This is directed by Henry Selick who also created ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ which is another great animated film created by stop motion animation.

Underneath is a list of the films I did not mention but, I also recommend them for you to have a look at.

  • Grave of the Fireflies
