The Best Film Soundtracks

Throughout the history of filmmaking and cinema, there have been some memorable soundtracks which have become cult classics. Whether it is a composed score or an array of artists, here are my favourite film soundtracks.

Inception

I find that film scores make me feel like I’m actually in the film and this one is very good in doing that. Not only is it a wonderful film but, the score which goes along with it fits so well. Hans Zimmer is amazing at creating such wonderful pieces of music.

Drive

This is one of my favourite Ryan Gosling films EVER; everything about the aesthetic and colours used in the film is so captivating. I really like this soundtrack because of the feel it has to it: 80’s synth with a mix of modern electronic music creates a wonderful feel to the film. Coincidentally, this soundtrack is great to listen to whilst driving.

The Great Gatsby

I think this is the only film soundtrack ever where I love all of the songs. I really enjoyed the film and the soundtrack just made it even better. Even though the film is set in the twenties, the hip hop music genre is very apparent in this film. Artists like Lana Del Rey and Beyonc√© also contribute to the wonderful soundtrack from ‘The Great Gatsby’.

Frank Ocean – Blond

In the anticipated wait, Frank Ocean released his new album ‘Blond’ in late August.¬†frank-ocean-blonde.jpg

I have been a fan of Frank Ocean for many months and even though his previous album (‘Channel Orange’) came out in 2012, I was still very excited for his return. Ocean then released a video on the 1st of August of an empty hall….many fans hoping this was a new music video. However, this theory soon stopped as it was just a video of an empty hall. Then finally, the album was then released on the 20th of August.

The album itself is probably one of my favourite albums of the moment. The most popular song on the album is definitely ‘Nikes’ and I can see why. Personally, my favourite song from the album is ‘Nights’. This album is great to relax too but, the lyrics are also very meaningful.

The two years making this album definitely paid off.

Favourite Albums at the Moment

Since I have started studying again, I love to listen to music whilst working. Eventually the same music gets repetitive but, I have recently found some albums that I love.

FOALS – WHAT WENT DOWN

This album has a mix of calming and heavy songs. A calming song on the album which I love is ‘Birch Tree’. My favourite song from the album is not so calm I would say but, it is a lot more of a rock song than anything else. ‘What Went Down’ is not only the most well known song on the album but personally, I think it is the catchiest. Foals are a great band overall but, ‘What Went Down’ is probably my favourite album they have done. I also recommend looking at the other albums Foals have done, ‘Holy Fire’ is another fantastic album.

SONGS I RECOMMEND: WHAT WENT DOWN, BIRCH TREE, ALBATROSS, LONELY HUNTER

TAME IMPALA – CURRENTS

Tame Impala’s ‘Currents’ is one of the best albums of the year, in my opinion. ‘Let It Happen’ has become one of their most popular songs for a reason. Every song on ‘Currents’ makes me feel like I’m in a film. ‘Let It Happen’ has a very psychedelic feel to it. This makes the song sound very original and very different to other songs out there, at the moment. A song which always gets stuck in my head is ‘The Less I Know The Better’. The catchy bass in the song makes it one of my favourites. I especially loved this album during the summer as the songs can be described as very summery. They also fit the occasion very well. I am looking forward to more music from Tame Impala and I hope to see them live someday.

SONGS I RECOMMEND: LET IT HAPPEN, THE LESS I KNOW THE BETTER, ‘CAUSE I’M A MAN
